The Founder's Story

Grief that refused
to stay silent

On a May afternoon in 2011, S. Annain Anaya Jothi sat with the unbearable fact that her sister — 36 years old, a mother, a woman full of life — was gone. She left two young children behind. In the grief that followed, Annain asked herself a question that would quietly rearrange the rest of her life: "Who else is sitting in this same darkness right now — not because of death, but because of poverty, hunger, and neglect?"

The answer, she discovered, was everywhere. In the families of daily-wage workers who couldn't feed their children on bad-weather days. In the bright students whose school fees went unpaid and whose futures quietly evaporated. In the women who had skills, ambition, and dreams — but no access, no platform, no one who believed in them.

"My sister passed away at 36, leaving two children. That grief could have stayed private. I decided it would not. If I couldn't save her, I would spend the rest of my life making sure others didn't have to face the same kind of helplessness alone."

On May 19, 2011, Anaya Jothi Charitable Trust was registered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Named after the founder — "Anaya" meaning grace, "Jothi" meaning light — the Trust began with a simple conviction: it is our duty and responsibility to give back to the society we live in.

Why We Exist

Mission & Vision

🎯

Our Mission

To uplift the lives of underprivileged communities across Chennai through nutritious food, quality education, vocational training, career guidance, and compassionate mental health support — ensuring that every individual, regardless of circumstance, can live with dignity, purpose, and hope.

We do this without fanfare. We do it because it needs to be done. And we do it with the kind of love that doesn't keep score.

🌟

Our Vision

A Chennai — and one day, a country — where no one goes hungry, every child has access to education, and every person has the tools to build a life they are proud of. We envision communities empowered by knowledge, nourished by care, and uplifted by the women who hold those communities together.

We do not believe this is idealistic. We believe it is achievable — one meal, one scholarship, one healed mind at a time.

What Guides Every Decision

Our Core Values

These are not words on a wall. They are the reason we show up — on the hard days, the resource-scarce days, the days when the need seems larger than the capacity to meet it.

❤️ Compassion 🤝 Dignity 📚 Education First 🌱 Long-Term Growth 🛡️ Service Without Judgment 🌸 Women's Empowerment 🍽️ Hunger Relief 🔍 Transparency

"I firmly believe it is our duty and responsibility to give back to the society we live in. Not because we are generous. Because we are human."
